Tree Maintenance

      Regular tree maintenance is important to keep you trees in optimal condition and prevent health issues. Here's an overview of standard tree maintenance.

      Maintenance begins with trimming to remove any potentially unsafe limbs. for example "crosses limbs" that have fused together, create a slight weakness in both limbs.  The weakness grows as the limbs grow. Removing both limbs removes the danger they pose and creates space for healthy limbs to thrive.

       Next, removing "sucker branches", which are the new growth sprouts that clutter the center of the tree, opens up and allows for more sunlight and better air circulation throughout the tree 

       Maintenance also includes selectively removing limbs that are growing awkwardly and low hanging limbs limbs to promote proper tree structure and balance.

      Regular inspection for and removal of any diseased or pest infected limbs is necessary to control and prevent infestation. Early detection is key to stop widespread destruction.

       Most trees should be trimmed and inspected at least every 1 to 3 years depending on the species and growth rate. However, there are situations and environmental factors to be considered.

          Fertilizing the tree is also part of regular maintenance. Trees depend upon the soil to provide the essential nutrients it needs to survive but often poor soil quality leaves the tree lacking. Deep root fertilizing helps to supplement any nutritional needs not met by the soil.

Tree topping / crown reduction is the removal of 20 - 25% of the limbs from the top of the tree. This should only be done in extreme cases as a last resort because it is a traumatic procedure for the tree and could cause the tree to die. It can only be done in cool weather, NEVER in hot summer months.
